  • The personal essay/memoir Confessions of a Cyclist appeared in 
    The American Scholar (June 1, 2022).

  • On the 20th anniversary of September 11th, Jonathan’s memoir and photographic essay 9/11: Taking the Long View, appeared in The American Scholar (Sept. 11, 2021).

  • At the NYU Symposium ReVision and ReForm: Teaching Writing Across Borders, Jonathan moderated the panel The Ethics and Question of the Self, with Natalie Friedman, Jacob Appel, and Olga Breydo. October 23-24, 2020.

  • Jonathan will teach a 6-week combination craft class and story-writing workshop on Short-Short Fiction (Mondays, 6:30 pm, June 1-July 6, 2020), at NYU’s School of Professional Studies

  • Jonathan’s essay Second Avenue Elevated, a memoir about the distant world of his father’s childhood in New York City in the 1940s and ’50s, appears in Tablet Magazine (August 29, 2019).

  • Jonathan will teach a 6-week literature course on the Coming-of-Age Short Story (Mondays, 6pm, June 3-July 8, 2019), at NYU’s School of Professional Studies.

  • Jonathan’s essay Revisiting the Deep Sense of Place in Alice Munro’s Debut, 50 Years Later, on the Nobel Prize writer’s first collection, appears in The Atlantic Magazine ( (Jan. 3, 2019).

  • Jonathan’s photography won Honorable Mention in the New York Center for Photographic Arts’ contest Urban Landscapes, Suburban Scenes and Rural Impressions, and is exhibited in their online gallery (Summer/Fall, 2018).

  • Jonathan’s review of A.D. Jameson’s I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing: Star Wars and the Triumph of Geek Culture appears in The Washington Post Sunday Book World (June 3, 2018).
